Thank you for visiting us at the Minnesota State Fair!

So many Minnesotans right now are Dying for a High

  • Fentanyl is involved in more deaths of Americans under 50 than any other cause of death, including heart disease, cancer, homicide, suicide, and other accidents.
  • Illicit fentanyl is being used to make fake prescription pills and is also found in common street drugs like cocaine, MDMA and heroin.
  • Often consumed unknowingly by users, illicit fentanyl is driving the recent increase in U.S. overdose deaths.
  • Fake pills have been found in all 50 states. Assume any prescription pill you see online is fake, including Oxy, Percocet, Adderall and Xanax.
  • Fake pills are the main reason fentanyl-involved deaths are fastest growing amongst youth.
  • Fentanyl is involved in more American youth deaths than heroin, meth, cocaine, benzos, and RX drugs COMBINED.

“You would never hold a loaded gun up to your head when you’re sober. But when you’re using, you’re basically doing that when you have no idea what’s in the pills or the powder you’re buying.”

%

of confiscated pills have a lethal dose of fentanyl

Fentanyl has become a serious issue throughout Minnesota. According to the DEA, 49% of confiscated pills have a lethal dose of fentanyl in them – that means almost half of just the pills that have been brought in will kill the user.

See the Problem:

If we don't know there's a problem, how can we attack it? Deaths involving synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) continued to rise with 56,516 overdose deaths reported in 2020. Drugs cut with fentanyl are becoming increasingly more common.

Understand the Problem:

Teenagers and young adults play a game of Russian Roulette with pressed pills and other narcotics that have cut or laced with fentanyl. The same amount that the person next to them took and survived, could kill them. Less than 0.007% of an ounce of fentanyl causes certain death. That means less than a 1/4 of a pressed pill with fentanyl in it will cause the user to overdose and die. Talk about the issue.

Know where to find Support:

We offer treatment, mentoring, counseling and a myriad of ways for those struggling with addiction to find the root of their use and ultimately, freedom.

Know the importance of Noloxone:

Administering naloxone during an overdose will give the person another chance and more time to find sobriety and transformation. https://www.mntc.org/signs-of-an-overdose/

Fentanyl Test Strips:

Form of drug testing technology which can detect the presence of fentanyl in drug samples prior to use. FTS are a reliable, common-sense means of providing people at risk of fentanyl exposure with more information that can decrease risk of overdose. https://www.health.state.mn.us/communities/opioids/documents/ftsforpwud.pdf
