Trina’s Story

I grew up feeling unworthy, devalued, unloved, and experienced mental, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse while in foster care. My life was defined by fear and rejection from a young age. These painful memories haunted me for years.

I struggled with methamphetamine for nearly 20 years, and it was my constant companion, helping me numb the pain of my past. Although it became my crutch, it also stripped me of everything.

But everything changed just seven months ago when I reached a breaking point and attempted to end my life. In that dark moment, I felt God’s presence and heard a different message. When I came to Mn Adult Teen Challenge, I realized that God had a unique plan for me, and I heard His voice saying, “Chosen, I call you by name.”
Now, I’m filled with a sense of worthiness, value, and the understanding that I deserve to be heard. Being at Mn Adult Teen Challenge has given me a new perspective on life. It’s like embarking on a journey that I’d always dreamed of. I’m 42 years old with four children, ages 22, 12, 10, and 7. I’m working towards reuniting with them, and I believe that God will guide me through this new path. Since entering the program, I’ve experienced a profound transformation. God has replaced my powerlessness with a newfound strength in Him.

Worship is my sanctuary; it’s where God speaks to me. Whether I’m singing or playing the piano, that’s when I hear His voice most clearly. I’ve had many powerful moments, but one stands out. I vividly remember breaking down while playing worship music in the chapel. In that moment, I transitioned from despair to knowing that God would help me through it.

When I sing, it’s like I’m singing directly to God. I imagine Him in front of me, and my goal is to make Him happy. The joy He derives from my worship fills me with purpose.
For new clients, especially those who may be hesitant about joining the choir, I’d encourage them to embrace the opportunity. I’ve seen people discover their voices in chapel and, at times, urged them to consider solo performances, even if it’s met with uncertainty.

Through my journey, I’ve learned that choosing God’s path is far more empowering and fulfilling than the struggles I faced in the past. This program has truly restored my life, allowing me to confront my past and look forward to a brighter future.
