Chris’ Story

My addiction wasn’t where my problems began. I had a good family and home, but I made bad choices as a young person. I was drawn to different things, not the usual stuff that interested people. I continued making bad choices throughout my youth, accumulating 23 felonies and serving 11 years in prison. During this time, I was separated from my wife, who loved me deeply.

Entering Teen Challenge was a turning point for me. It helped me understand not just how God interacts with me but also the concept of love itself. My wife had always shown me unconditional love, despite my flaws. Her love made me realize there’s someone, something that loves me even more. It was eye-opening.

Initially, I resisted being part of the group, wanting to be different. But eventually, I realized I needed to be part of a supportive family. Being around guys who were different from me was exactly what I needed to grow.

A crucial moment during this journey was when I lost my best friend, and I didn’t know how to cope with the grief. A chaplain stepped in. We had a personal prayer session, and it changed everything. I let go of my fears and anxieties, giving them to Christ. It brought relief and peace I hadn’t felt before.

This program reshaped my life, improving my relationships with others and developing compassion for those different from me. Now, I enjoy time with people I didn’t initially connect with.

My transformation allowed me to rebuild connections with my family. This journey led me to lead the client choir and become a part of the Teen Challenge program, where I find deep joy in supporting others on their recovery journey.
Looking back, I’m profoundly grateful to our donors. Their prayers and contributions played a significant role in my recovery, helping me rediscover happiness and reunite with my family. My story shows the transformative power of faith, love, and community.
