Spencer’s Story

“If I had a good day, I drank. If I had a bad day I drank.”

As I grew up, we moved around quite a bit. I was always worried about meeting new people and making new friends. I played every sport I could but I was always anxious. Pot and alcohol set me free in my teenage years, the first time I tried it, my anxiety finally went away.

I continued to use alcohol through my career, marriage and birth of my children. At one point, I went to inpatient and relapsed right after…I woke up in a jail cell with no idea what had happened. I was legally removed from my home. I was losing everything – my family and my job. I couldn’t figure out how to get healthy on my own.

I came into the program at Mn Adult & Teen Challenge and I realized that God wasn’t just waiting there for me to mess up. I had forgotten that he’s a father not just a judge. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to be reunited with my wife and my 3 children. I get to teach them how to love God and know that I can be with them not just here on earth, but for eternity.
