Minnesota Fishing Challenge Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  I am interested in fishing, but want to partner with someone who has a boat.  How do I do that?

A:  Send an email to FishingChallenge@mntc.org, and we will maintain a list of boaters looking for partners.

Q: Where can I rent a fishing or pontoon boat on Gull Lake?

A: Several rental locations are available. Call the Brainrd Lakes Chamber for specifics -- 218-829-2838

Q:  I have a boat and would like to fish, but need a partner.  How do I find a partner?

A:  Ask at your church.  Consider youthful anglers from the neighborhood, scouts, and relatives.  Or, send an email to FishingChallenge@mntc.org, and we will try to pair you up with anglers wanting to find a partner with a boat.

Q:  Does it cost extra to fish for more than one species?

A:  No.  Each team may fish for all four species, or may concentrate on just one species.  The $100 entry fee includes the ability to fish for as many species as desired.

Q:  How do I go about raising the sponsorship dollars?

A:  There is a special sponsorship sales guideline available with entry blanks.  If you need suggestions, read the material.  If you still need help with a "sales pitch," give Michael Johnson a call (218-740-5522), or contact Jim Kalkofen (218-825-3732) for recommendations.

Q:  Will I get to meet Al Lindner?

A:  Yes.  He will give the keynote presentation at the Friday rules meeting, and be present on and around the docks and stage at weigh-in.  He will also congratulate you personally if you're one of the winners.  The top fund-raisers also get to sit with Al at the Friday meal function.

Q:  How many fish can I weigh?

A:  If you wait until the end of the day, you may bring in only one bass, one northern pike, three walleyes and three panfish (any combination of bluegills, sunnies and crappies).

Q:  Can I weigh in early?

A:  Yes, You may bring in a bass, a pike, three walleyes or three panfish at any time after 10 a.m..  These fish will then be released, and you may return to the water and try to beat your weight.

Q:  Do I have to weigh early?

A:  No:  You may continue fishing and upgrading throughout the day, per Minnesota law.

Q:  Where is the money going?

A:  The funds you raise will go directly to Minnesota Teen Challenge.  All of the sponsorship dollars raised goes to Teen Challenge.  Much of the $100 entry fee will also go there, after tournament expenses (trophies, stage, scales, printing, etc.).

Q:  Can my kids fish?

A:  Yes, all ages are encouraged to participate.  If the two youngsters are under age 16, a non-fishing adult must also be present. The adult must also sign the entry form.

Q:  How do I collect my prizes?

A:  Every prize winner must be present at the awards ceremony to collect prizes.

Q: Will there be things for kids to do if my wife brings them to the weigh-in site?

A:  Yes, CenterShot Archery and Fishing for Life will have many FREE games and activities for kids.
